KRAFTON Inc, the South Korean online game firm, and maker of BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI), appears to be discovering it powerful to delink itself from its erstwhile Chinese language origin. PRAHAR, a non-profit organisation working within the space of socio-economic growth, has written a letter to the ministry of house affairs (MHA) and ministry of electronics and knowledge know-how (MEIT) asking for ban on Battlegrounds Cellular India (BGMI) below part 69A of the Data Know-how Act. The NGO needs the app to be banned on the bottom that it poses a risk to the sovereignty and integrity of India.
The request to dam the app comes days after the federal government introduced a ban on 54 Chinese language apps on February 14, 2022. The NGO has urged the federal government so as to add BGMI to the listing of 54 Chinese language apps. It claims that Krafton, the South Korean studio that publishes BGMI, is a entrance firm of China’s main web firm Tencent Holdings.
“Tencent Holdings had launched PUBG in India, and it was one of the downloaded video games on the time of its ban in 2020. In lower than a yr, PUBG was re-introduced in India by a entrance firm of Tencent – Krafton below the brand new identify BGMI — a transfer that was clearly meant to avoid the Indian policymakers,” says PRAHAR within the letter.
The letter additional claims that Tencent is the second-largest shareholder of Krafton with 15.5% shares.
