Microsoft is trying to offer Teams users a better experience by improving the audio and video quality of the service. The tech giant has recently announced a long list of features for its video calling platform that does the same. Microsoft Teams is using artificial intelligence (AI) to make meetings and group calls feel more natural. Some of these tools that use AI to enhance user experience and are currently available include — Echo cancellation, “de-reverberation,” background noise suppression and real-time optimisation.
In a blog post, Microsoft Teams VP, Nicole Herskowitz said, “Disruptive echo effects, poor room acoustics, and choppy videos” are some regular issues that affect online calls and meetings. He even mentioned that the company has identified and is now delivering innovative enhancements in Microsoft Teams through AI and machine learning that is expected to improve such audio and video challenges.
Microsoft Teams’ new features
As per Microsoft, Teams will now support features like echo cancellation and “de-reverberation” that will help in adjusting poor room acoustics. The video calling service will also offer more natural conversations and will also suppress background noises. Teams will also adjust the content you share by using real-time screen optimisation and will even use brightness and focus filters to put users in the best light. Moreover, AI-based optimisation will also ensure that the video looks great, even under bandwidth constraints.
Importance of these new features
A room with poor acoustics can reduce audio quality even if you’re using one of the best webcams. Microsoft Teams’ new AI features are expected to improve the call quality to a certain extent by cancelling echos, reducing reverberation and allowing two people to speak simultaneously. The audio calling feature is also expected to offer a smoother experience during conversations that require back-and-forth communication.
